On the Skyline is written by Kate Coldrick, a UK-based writer and educator. The blog explores how women have been culturally represented as dangerous, disruptive, or deviant across time and tradition.
Drawing on mythology, literature, history, and contemporary media, it examines recurring narratives around women who challenge dominant norms through speech, resistance, sexuality, autonomy, or refusal to conform. Figures such as Medusa, Morgen le Fey, and Anne Askew serve as entry points into wider cultural patterns, showing how women linked with power, ambiguity, or dissent are often vilified, pathologised, or erased.
The project engages with both fictional characters and real public figures whose lives or legacies have been shaped by such narratives. Its concern lies not with individual biography, but with the broader cultural processes by which reputations are constructed, dismantled, and sometimes reclaimed. It invites reflection on the dynamics of voice and silencing, the mechanisms by which legitimacy is granted or denied, and the interpretive frameworks that determine how women’s stories are told, by whom, and to what end.
On the Skyline also exists as a published book, bringing together this strand of reflective and critical writing as part of a wider creative project.
Alongside On the Skyline, Kate Coldrick also writes about education, neurodiversity, and inclusive learning, sharing resources and research for teachers, tutors, and families.
